Deep Hair Conditioner | Essential Hair Care

A deep hair conditioner is an intensive hair treatment developed to add moisture and shine to hair. The best deep hair conditioners leave your hair feeling smoother and looking shinier.

I make it my mission to shout about the benefits of adding moisture to the hair, whatever your hair type.

Adding moisture helps your hair look shinier and feel softer, making it easier to style and hold its shape.

With over 35 years in the hair care industry, I’m passionate about helping people transform dry, dull hair into healthy, shiny hair. I developed my deep hair conditioner to unlock your hair’s potential for maximum health and shine.

Discover everything you need to know about deep hair conditioners and how Restore and Shine Hair Masque can bring out the best in your hair.

Deep Hair Conditioner| Overview

Shiny, smooth hair doesn’t happen by accident. If you want shiny, frizz-free hair, a deep hair conditioner is essential to include in your hair care routine. In this blog, I’ll answer frequently asked questions about deep conditioners, giving you the know-how to get the best from your deep conditioning treatment.

1. What is a Deep Hair Conditioner?

Deep Conditioner, Restore and Shine Hair Masque

I developed my deep hair conditioner, using salon expertise to give hair the best intensive treatment.

Conditioners have two jobs; a good quality conditioner adds moisture to the hair after washing and smooths the cuticle. Conditioners are an essential part of maintenance for your hair care routine. However, if you want to stop frizzy hair, banish dry ends and have gloriously smooth, shiny hair, your hair needs a deep conditioner.

My deep conditioner, Restore and Shine Hair Masque, is super concentrated. Packed with the best ingredients, it nourishes hair from the inside out for a smooth, shiny finish.

Forget quick fixes. I’m all about giving hair the best foundation. The best foundation for hair is moisture. Restore and Shine Hair Masque adds moisture to the hair’s core and smooths the cuticle to retain it. By smoothing the outer layer, the tiny scales of the cuticle lay flat, allowing light to bounce off the smooth surface, leaving hair shiny and smooth. By reducing moisture loss, your hair is less prone to breakage. Plus, your hair is easier to style and can hold a style for longer. Using Restore and Shine Hair Masque weekly will give your hair a regular moisture boost to maintain a smooth texture for maximum shine.

2. Which is the Best Deep Hair Conditioner?

Choosing the best deep conditioner for your hair can be tricky. I have over 35 years in the salon business; I’ve used plenty of hair products.

In my experience, the best deep conditioner gets moisture right to the hair’s core. I like to keep it simple. Hair needs regular moisture. Quick fixes are not always what they promise. So. if you want a smooth, shiny finish, it’s time to get serious about nourishing your hair with a deep conditioner.

My favourite hair care ingredients get moisture to the hair’s core and smooth the cuticle. But it’s not just about single ingredients. It’s about the blend.

Getting the perfect blend of nourishing ingredients to deliver the best deep conditioner took me four years of development and testing. The following are my favourite moisture-boosting ingredients. I chose them to create the perfect blend in my Restore and Shine Hair Masque.

  • Pro-vitamin B5 targets damaged hair to reduce split ends, leaving hair smoother and shinier.
  • Glycerin attracts moisture to the hair. That is vital as it also prevents moisture loss, helping to tame frizzy hair.
  • Cetearyl Alcohol is a natural fat that conditions hair, smoothing the cuticle for maximum hair shine.
  • Avocado is a powerhouse ingredient containing vitamins A, D and E to restore health and shine to the hair.
  • Tocopherol (vitamin E) smooths and nourishes the hair.

3. What can I use as a Deep Hair Conditioner?

Are you thinking of raiding your kitchen store cupboard to create a hair conditioning treatment?

Think again.

Olive oil is a popular choice for DIY hair masks.

However, a product used for cooking or salad dressings is not great for your hair. The molecules of olive oil are too big to penetrate the hair, and the olive oil from your cupboard will sit on your hair, leaving a heavy residue.

That residue will make your hair greasy and attract dirt.

Worse, when you wash your hair, you may have to wash it several times to get the oil out of your hair. Excessive washing can leave the hair feeling dry, defeating the object of doing the treatment in the first place.

I’m not saying that the olive tree doesn’t have benefits for the hair. I use olive leaf extract in my deep conditioner, Restore and Shine Hair Masque. Olive leaf extract is a concentrated ingredient used in my deep conditioner formulation. Your hair gets the nourishing benefits without the downside of the oily residue.

If you want an effective deep conditioner, use one formulated and rigorously tested to do the job.

4. Does a Deep Hair Conditioner really work?

All hair types can benefit from a deep hair conditioner. However, choosing the best deep hair conditioner is only part of the story. How you apply products makes a difference in how they perform on your hair.

So, for example, if you have thick, curly hair, you may leave the deep conditioner on for longer; with fine, straight hair, you may find layering the products a small amount at a time gives you better results.

I’ve written a blog on how to get the most from your deep conditioner. I cover how to use a deep hair conditioner by hair type. Plus, I share expert tips on treating your hair at home.

5. Do you shampoo after Deep Conditioning?

If you use an oil-based deep hair conditioner, they are generally applied to dry hair and then washed out using shampoo. I recommend you check the manufacturer’s instructions.

When using a water-based deep hair conditioner such as Restore and Shine, apply to clean, damp hair. Shampoo your hair, rinse and towel out excess water before application. Leave for the preferred amount of time. Following treatment, rinse the hair using warm water, dry and style as normal.

There’s no need to shampoo the hair again.

6. How Long does it take to Deep Condition Hair?

The time it takes to deep condition hair depends on your hair. I’ve written some guidelines for Restore and Shine Hair Mask. If you are using another deep conditioner, check the manufacturer’s instructions.

Fine, dry hair – a maximum of 2 hours
Coarse, dry hair – anything from 2 hours to overnight.
Grey, dry hair- hair tends to be finer as we age. Unless your hair is coarse, I recommend no more than 2 hours.
Dry, curly hair – if your hair is curly and thick overnight, try leaving it on overnight or for a few hours. For fine curly hair, I recommend a couple of hours.
Dry, colour-treated or dyed hair -overnight if your hair is thick/coarse. Otherwise, anything from 2 to 4 hours. Try wearing a plastic cap to add heat intensity to the treatment.

7. How do you Deep Condition Hair?

Deep Conditioner-Model with shiny hair

Using a deep conditioner is very similar to using a conditioner. The steps below will help you to get the most from your deep conditioner.

  1. Shampoo and rinse your hair; water-based deep hair conditioners such as Restore and Shine Hair Masque work better on clean, damp hair.
  2. Towel out the water; once rinsed, it’s time to get rid of the excess water; if the hair is too wet, the product can slip off the hair, sending your deep hair conditioner down the drain.
Hair should be damp, not dripping wet. Hair is most fragile when wet, so handle your hair with care. The best way to remove excess water is to pat out the water. Avoid rubbing the hair.
  3. Warm up the deep hair conditioner in your palms. Working up the deep conditioner in your hands warms and softens the product, making it easier to get an even spread on the hair. Avoid overloading one area of the hair.Concentrate on the ends and mid-lengths. The only exception to this is thick, coarse or curly hair. You know your hair, and if it can take a product at the roots, by all means, work the product up to the roots.
  4. Once you’ve applied the deep hair conditioner, it’s up to you how long you leave it on your hair. You can follow my guidelines on timing in the section above. Having said that, if you use another manufacturer’s deep conditioner, check their instructions first.
  5. The final step? Rinse the deep hair conditioner out of your hair. Style as normal and enjoy your silky, shiny locks.

8. How often should I Deep Condition my Damaged Hair?

For damaged hair, I recommend regular treatments with Restore and Shine Hair Mask. Use twice a week for the first two weeks. After that, use it once a week, every week.

Go to my blog on how to fix damaged hair to discover more tips on repairing damaged hair.

8. Can any Conditioner be used as a Deep Hair Conditioner?

Conditioners are for use after every shampoo. However, deep hair conditioners are more nourishing and are developed for use once a week.

Conditioners don’t replace a deep conditioning treatment, but you can get more from your conditioner if you follow my tips below.

  1. After shampooing and rinsing the hair, gently squeeze out the excess water.Applying conditioner to hair that is damp, not dripping wet, works best.
  2. Work the conditioner up in your palms, so get an even application on the ends and mid-lengths.
  3. Rinse your hair right before stepping out of the shower. That way, the conditioner gets a bit longer to nourish the hair.

If you condition your hair every time you shampoo, you might wonder why you need to use a deep hair conditioner.

It’s a good question, and the answer lies in all the environmental factors your hair has to deal with; from pollution in urban areas to heated styling, colour treatments, sun and wind, they all take their toll.

When you factor in excessive brushing or how much we touch our hair during the day, all of these things can cause the cuticle to lift, leaving the hair at risk of becoming dry and damaged.

That’s why a deep hair conditioner is so important. It gives your hair the extra moisture boost to combat those environmental factors.

8. What Home Remedy can I use to Deep Condition my Hair

From eggs and lemon juice to avocado and olive oil, you’ll see plenty of suggestions for home hair remedies; they may give a temporary fix and make the cuticle feel smooth. However, they can’t penetrate the cuticle to get moisture to the hair’s core; they sit on your hair, leaving a residue.

The hair needs moisture.

Pro vitamin b5 is clinically proven to penetrate the cuticle, getting moisture to the hair’s core. Pro Vitamin B5 is a cornerstone ingredient in my Restore and Shine Hair Masque because it works. It adds moisture to the hair. I blend it with glycerin to prevent moisture loss in the hair.

Choose a deep hair conditioner formulated to deliver moisture for your best hair.

9. How can I Moisturise my Hair without Oil?

Choose a water-based deep hair conditioner such as Restore and Shine Hair Masque. It’s packed with ingredients that will get moisture to your hair’s core whilst smoothing the cuticle for super shine and helping the hair retain moisture.

Plus, I’ve got plenty of tips about adding moisture to hair without oil in my blog on choosing a moisturising hair mask. Say ‘No’ to dry hair and discover more about the benefits of a moisturising hair mask.

Deep Hair Conditioner | Take Aways

1. Hair Care Routine

Deep Conditioners are not a one-off event. Use them weekly for smooth, frizz-free, shiny hair.

2. A Deep Conditioner Adds Moisture

A deep hair conditioner has 2 jobs to do; add moisture to your hair and seal the cuticle to retain moisture.

3. Deep Conditioners are more Nourishing than Conditioners

Conditioners and Deep Conditioners are both hair care essentials. Use a deep conditioner weekly to combat the effects of styling, weather and other environmental factors.

4. Adapt the Application to suit your Hair

Restore and Shine Hair Masque is suitable for all hair types. You can adapt the application to suit your hair.

5. Home Remedies are not Enough

Home remedies might have some benefits such as making the cuticle feel smooth. However they don’t add moisture to the hair. Use a professionally developed deep conditioner to add moisture to you hair.
