We've washed a lot of hair in our time (over 35 years in the salon business) and the thing about washing hair is that it's not just about washing hair. When you wash your hair you wash your scalp. The scalp has an important job to do so we like to treat it with respect. That's why we formulate our shampoos to be gentle on the hair and the scalp.
The scalp doesn't get much of a look in when we talk about our hair and yet its the absolute foundation for growing strong, healthy hair. Its funny how we focus on using gentle ingredients for our face and yet so many shampoos contain harsh detergents. The scalp is a sensitive area and taking care of it creates the best environment for hair growth. When taking care of the scalp we think there are a couple of things to think about.
Firstly the scalp needs regular cleansing to get rid of sweat, oil and the build-up dirt from our environment or from products. Keeping the scalp clean is essential so that the follicles don't become clogged and healthy hair can grow.
Secondly, many scalp problems occur when the scalp is dry or dehydrated so it's vital to keep it moisturised.
This was front of mind when we developed our shampoos. We wanted a shampoo that would cleanse the scalp, whilst keeping it moisturised. To achieve this we chose a cleanser derived from coconut. It's gentle on the hair and scalp and produces a beautiful creamy lather that rinses easily. For moisture, we combine Pro-vitamin B5, Glycerin and Carageenen (seaweed) in our shampoo formulas. Pro-Vitamin B5 for intense moisture. Glycerin prevents moisture loss and we use Carageenen for conditioning.
When testing the formulas in our salon, we found that the right combination of moisturising ingredients with a gentle cleanser delivered fantastic results for the hair and the scalp. We had the base for our shampoo formulas and our next challenge was to select active ingredients for different hair types.
Our ethos for taking care of hair has always been simplicity. We believe that the hair and scalp need to be cleansed and moisturised using good quality products. So we kept our range simple too. If you've ever been overwhelmed by the different types of products on offer, you'll know what we mean. We have two types of shampoo to suit different hair types.
First up, Revive and Shine Shampoo is an everyday shampoo that can be used across the hair types. The formula is developed to get moisture into the core of the hair. By getting moisture into the cortex, the cuticle is plumped out and it gives hair body. This makes it an especially great choice for anyone with fine hair but, as it says on the bottle, it can be used for all hair types.
It contains Nettle which is a wonderful stimulant for scalp circulation. Nettle is great for balancing the scalp condition. We find that with continued use of this product, many of our clients with dry scalp conditions have improved the condition of their scalps.
Revive and Shine Shampoo contains volume-boosting Baobab so if you have fine hair this helps with body and volume. With a gorgeous, fresh aroma and a formula that leaves hair clean, shiny and full it's the perfect wake-up call for you and your hair.
It's fragranced with a zesty blend of lime, orange, bergamot, cedar, lemon, ginger, elemi and may chang essential oils.
Revive and Shine Shampoo has won multiple awards; Red Magazine Green Beauty Awards, Natural Health Magazine Beauty Awards, Beauty Shortlist Awards.
For those with hair that needs extra moisture, we have Hydrate and Shine Shampoo.
Hydrate and Shine Shampoo is our super-moisturising shampoo for all types of dry hair. Some hair types are dry naturally; curly hair, coarse, thick hair, grey hair. Others are dry due to environmental factors; colour-treatments, heated styling, city-living, sun, central heating.
Whatever the reason, if your hair is dry, then this is the shampoo for you. Hydrate and Shine Shampoo has an extra moisture boost to tackle dry hair. It contains Honey to detangle dry ends and leaving the hair more supple and shiny. Honey also makes hair more stretchy and elastic so you'll notice its easier to manage and style. Superfood Moringa Seed is the powerhouse of moisture in this formula, helping to hydrate the hair and scalp.

Speaking of smells, Hydrate and Shine Shampoo is fragranced with mandarin, orange, rosemary, lavandin, cedar, amyris, patchouli, lavender essential oils. Uplifting is a great way of describing this essential oil blend.
One of our most important sensory experiences is aroma and we have created a blend of essential oils for each range in our haircare collection.
But we use essential oil blends as more than just an aroma in our products. From stimulating hair follicles to helping to reduce breakage, each natural blend of oils has been carefully selected to help nourish and condition the hair and scalp.
Once you've selected the right shampoo for your hair type there are some simple things that you can do to support healthy hair and scalp.
- Avoid overheating the scalp. Take the temperature down a notch when you are washing your hair. If the water is too hot it can be drying for the scalp. Lukewarm water is better for rinsing your hair and scalp.
- Try air-drying your hair at least once a week. Giving your scalp a break from the heat of the hairdryer helps to maintain hydration. If you can't give up the hairdryer then turn down the heat and use a cool setting.
- For most of us, particularly in the morning rush, we can be a little too vigorous when washing our hair. The trick when shampooing your scalp is to be firm but gentle. Wash your scalp as though you are giving it a massage.
- When washing your hair start around the edges of the hairline and work your way inwards. The hairline, particularly around the back of the neck and behind the ears can be prone to build-up. Most of us tend to start washing the hair from the crown and it's easy to forget the hairline. Doing it the other way around will help to make sure you get the whole scalp clean.
- Shampoo your hair regularly. Getting rid of build-up on the scalp is the key to healthy hair.
- Don't overload your scalp with styling products. If you've chosen a gentle shampoo to take care of your scalp, think twice about applying styling products with harsh ingredients. There are many innovative natural ingredients available now so choose your styling products well. There's no need to rely on industrial-strength hairsprays or follicle clogging waxes to style your hair. Check out our styling range for inspiration.
There are no rules about how often you wash your hair. As a guideline, we would recommend 2 to 3 times a week but if you feel your hair needs to be washed more often, it's fine to wash every day. Just choose a gentle shampoo. The main thing is to build a good routine of regular cleansing that suits your hair and scalp.
Fine hair needs a light touch and using the wrong shampoo can weigh it down leaving hair limp and lifeless. Revive and Shine Shampoo with body-building Baobab will leave hair feeling full, with body and volume. Use two to three times a week to keep hair clean and free of build-up.
You may find you need to wash your hair more frequently than other hair types. Develop your own routine and if you feel your hair needs to be washed every day then do what suits your hair. Revive and Shine Shampoo is gentle on the hair and scalp. You can use it every day if that's your preferred routine.
Thinking about Skipping Conditioner?
Fine hair types shouldn't be tempted to skip the conditioner as this will enhance the shine. Not to mention the condition and manageability of hair. If you are struggling to find a conditioner that works for your try Revive and Shine Conditioner. With its lightweight formulas, it's developed to nourish and de-tangle hair. It leaves hair full, with absolutely no build-up.
Is your Fine Hair Dry?
Don’t let dry ends downgrade your hairdo. Dry ends are a common problem with fine hair. If hair is dry or colour-treated you might want to choose a more nourishing conditioner. Hydrate and Shine Conditioner can be used with Revive and Shine Shampoo. Simply focus applying condition at the ends and mid-lengths of the hair.
Regular conditioning is essential for combating dry ends. Our silicone-free conditioners are developed not to weigh heavy on the hair and will rinse without leaving a residue.
Condition hair two to three times a week to maintain hydration and once a week treat your hair with the Restore and Shine Hair Masque. This is a more intensive treatment with a richer formula that infuses deep into the hair shaft to re-hydrate.
Ogario London shampoos are formulated to be gentle on the scalp. Free from SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulphate), we use a coconut derived surfactant to gently cleanse the scalp and hair. A soothing blend of glycerin and pro-vitamin b5, carageenan (seaweed) and olive leaf combine to gently moisturise the hair and scalp.
Revive and Shine Shampoo contains Nettle. Nettle is good for balancing the condition of the scalp and helping to combat dryness. Its a source of iron, protein and other minerals – it’s been used as a tonic for hundreds of years, nourishing and boosting the circulation needed for a healthy scalp. It also contains silica. Silica has soothing anti-inflammatory properties to support a healthy scalp.
If you're dealing with dry hair it can be tempting to wash hair less frequently. In our experience hair that is washed the least is often the driest.
The key to maintaining moisture is to keep the scalp free of build-up with regular cleansing and regular conditioning. Think about your hair in the same way as your skin. If your skin was dry, would you wash it less? Probably not. Chances are you'd seek out a more gentle cleanser and keep moisturising it regularly. It's the same for hair. For most people, washing hair 2 to 3 times a week is required for maintenance.
Colour-treatments can make hair prone to dryness. Choose Hydrate and Shine Shampoo, developed to protect colour and be gentle on the hair. To combat dryness focus on building a routine of regular conditioning and get into good habits with a weekly hair mask.

We put our hair under all kinds of stress, from heated appliances to harsh weather, via air con and central heating. If your locks are in need of some TLC, intense hydration is the answer. Step forward, Hydrate and Shine Shampoo and Conditioner.
